Ελλάδα - ElládaApplication from Greece to join EPAW

Greetings from Stephani, Greece

We are a small village of about 400 permanent residents and we would like to extend our strong support for EPAW in the struggle of this madness called industrial wind farms.

Stephani is located in the mountainous area just above the imposing ruins of Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its name –meaning crown/garland- is attributed to Homer's “fair-garlanded Mycenae” (The Odyssey). It is a place rich in history, with important byzantine monuments, Frankish castles, countless dry-stone walls, and the priceless remains of Mycenaean highways that commemorate the architectural genius of our legendary ancestors who lived 3000 years ago. The flora and fauna is largely unexplored in our region but consists of many endangered and protected species. Our village is also home to the Stephanion Observatory, one of the leading astrophysical observatories world-wide in the field of stellar activity (flare stars). The economy of our village is largely traditional, our villagers live of their sheep flocks and olive trees. Furthermore, Stephani is valued by many for its tranquility and the sense of retreat it evokes as a place rich in history set in unspoilt country-side. Outdoor activities like trekking, mountain biking and paragliding have been increasingly contributing to local economy over the past decade.

Village

In 2005, we “accidentally” discovered (the local population was never meant to be informed about the planning applications), that our mountain ridges were being claimed by approx. 70 wind turbines belonging to different companies, one of whom is French (EDF). The biggest wind farm with 22 wind turbines is scheduled to be situated just 600m. away from our village and some 960m. away from the Stephanion Observatory. Our mountains used to be a Wildlife Sanctuary since 1969, but the sanctuary status was revoked almost overnight by the corrupt local authorities and with this environmental obstacle out of the way, the wind farms immediately received their production license.

Mountains and forest land are protected by the Greek constitution. Nevertheless, over the past years, the governments under the pressure of private investors and international conglomerates, who were being sued by organizations all over the country, came up with new laws permitting the installation of wind turbines on mountains and forest land, as well as a dubious special land-use planning for renewable energy sources based on the vested interest of the companies (especially wind farms) and they even attempted to change the constitution.

The environmental impact assessments of the wind farms are not only insufficient, they are a joke, deliberately hiding the existence of our village, of the Stephanion Observatory and of Mycenae as well. Privately owned land has been “baptized” public land. One of the E.I.A, paid by the wind farms, assessed a permanent sound nuisance for our village caused by the wind turbines at 42dB(A), before it was withdrawn and replaced by some more convenient numbers, after we first opposed their initial planning application.…. These are only a few examples that show the extent of offhandedness with which the historic landscapes of Greece are being destroyed and industrialized and the people of rural areas treated like subhuman natives. It has nothing to do with carbon saving or saving the planet from climate change but everything to do with subsidies and “earth and water”.
Also, the mountain slopes of Stephani are claimed by around 10 MW (!) of industrial photovoltaic power plants, which in Greece ride on the wake of the wind turbines' “invasion”.

Our association and its members and families believe in the power of renewable energies, in order to reduce our dependence of fossil fuels and polluting thermal power plants, but not through the controversial industrial exploitation of these natural resources. Instead we believe in sustainable living and in using renewable energies through small-scale technologies at home. Imagine what solar panels on roof tops could do in Greece. Imagine what could be achieved if all subsidies and tax money that are spend on industrial wind turbines, solar power plants ect., would actually be spend on energy saving... But there are no such incentives for the residential use of renewable energies in our country. Instead, our culture, our history, our beautiful and highly valued landscapes are served to the Greek and International Energy Lobby on a silver platter.

We are determined to go on fighting these planning applications as far as it takes and we know of many other organizations in Greece who do the same.

BălgarijaGreen Balkans Bulgaria - Letter

Dear All,

Thank you very much for offering us the opportunity to join the common efforts made by various European organizations to mitigate the damages wind turbines cause to nature and biodiversity.

Green Balkans is a nature conservation organization established 20 years ago; The Organization's main goal is the preservation of biodiversity and habitats of threatened species. In order to achieve this goal, and due to the launched process of construction of wind turbines in Bulgaria in accordance with the EU Directive 2001/77/EC on the promotion of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in the internal electricity market, we undertake actions to reduce the negative impact of wind farms. These actions include development of position papers sent to the Ministry of Environment and Waters and the companies intending to build wind turbines, implementation of awareness raising campaigns, and legal proceedings against infringements of the Biological Diversity Act, Directive 79/409/EEC on the conservation of wild birds, and Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora.

We would like to join you in your efforts to mitigate the damages on nature and biodiversity caused by the construction of wind turbines.

EnglandRequest to join EPAW

Hello,

I am writing to you from North Cornwall, UK, on behalf of "STINC" - Stop Turbines in North Cornwall.

www.stinc.co.uk

We are a group objecting to the proliferation of industrial wind turbines in North Cornwall, and are currently protesting three proposals at Otterham, Titchbarrow and Davidstow. These are all within a few miles of each other and for Otterham and Davidstow, of the order of a kilometer from the boundary of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and would be of heights to interfere substantially with the wild moorland and coastal views. North Cornwall is heavily dependent on tourists visiting to see the natural landscape.

I have consulted with the committee and have the approval of the Chairman, Arthur Boyt, and the committee.

Yours sincerely

DeutschlandUnterstützerschreiben an die EPAW

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

Wir sprechen als Vorsitzende für die Bürgerinitiative Landschaftsschutz Aller-Oker-Aue (BILA) e.V. .

Wind Farm Victims

My wife and I live in a uniquely beautiful Welsh valley. Last April we had a knock on our door to be told a massive wind farm, possibly the largest on-shore wind farm in the UK, is planned around us: 140 metre high turbines, some actually inside the bowl-shaped top of the valley at close proximity to three residential properties. During a meeting at or request the project manager and consultant kept repeating like a mantra that close proximity to turbines does not decrease house values and no one ever suffers noise pollution from wind farms as long permission is granted by the residents to carry out sound monitoring tests. In order to have conclusive proof that these assertion are untrue we are trying to get into contact with people who have suffered noise pollution and property blight in the past. We have set up a website for this purpose www.windfarmvictims.org.uk and would be grateful if this message can be added to your excellent website.

With thanks,

As early joiners from the UK we are delighted to see EPAW now approaching 300 signatories in total. Many congratulations for getting this initiative so far already.

Wind turbines, onshore ones in particular, will turn out to be one of the biggest confidence tricks of all time.

Viel Erfolg!

Česká republikaOS Pohoda Koclířov

Dear friends,

We, the resident association Pohoda Koclirov from the Czech Republic, are pleased that the EPAW exists, and since we fully agree with the wording of your letter addressed to the European parliament we would like to support the idea and join you.

Our association has been fighting against the unreasonable and massive building of wind power plants in our close neighbourhood for five years already. Two referenda have already taken place in our village related to the issue of the construction of windfarms. Both the referenda proved successful to us when persuading the locals not to have the wind power plants in our village. This was a huge success for us because of the increasing pressure from private investors, the goal of whom is to build windfarms in our neighbourhood, supported by media, politicians and both public and private funding. Though we won one battle, the response to which was that the investors moved the project 1500 m further to neighbouring villages, we obviously have not won the war yet: According to the new plan, as many as 70 of 150 m high wind power plants are to be built on a 30 km2 area.

Our association is a member of the Union for Landscape which nowadays represents 18 resident associations. We are very happy that the issue of windfarms has become a world-wide matter. The Czech Republic is a densely populated country in comparison to its size. Therefore, a windfarm wherever positioned will be close to human dwellings.

Logo

The Czech public is only given biased, misleading and often subjective information on the issue of windfarms. Czechs are persuaded that other EU countries are really fond of wind power plants. This is the reason why those who are against building windfarms in the Czech Republic are thought to be fools.

We look forward to any future cooperation. And let's wish ourselves good luck!

Dear Sirs

At our last meeting we did not have to discuss long before deciding that we would like formally to join EPAW, whose objectives we fully support.

Something very odd is happening in and around where we live near Market Harborough. In the lowest wind mean speed area in England we have (at the last count) at least 19 proposals amounting to over 100 windmills within a 12 mile radius of the town.

It is totally clear that this activity has nothing to do with carbon saving and everything to do with developers making a "fast buck".

Greetings from DART (Dorset Against Rural Turbines).

Here in the tiny village of East Stoke, near Wareham in Dorset, we are fighting a proposal by a landowner who together with a Dutch company, Infinergy are attempting to site 4 x125 metre turbines in the heart of the Purbeck countryside.

This is an area frequented by protected birds and other wildlife including bats, the red listed Nightjar and Britain's most highly protected bird, the Osprey.

The landowner has recently placed a mass of high powered lighting on some of his equipment in the area, no doubt intending to disturb wildlife and affect the outcome of any environmental surveys.

Infinergy have also sent their representatives into local schools and handed out gifts such as mini wind turbines to the pupils during lesson times.

This is near the A11, sited in close proximity to the villages of Balsham, West Wratting, Six Mile Bottom, Great Wilbraham, Brinkley and Fulbourn. Parts of Balsham will be less than 1.5km from the closest turbines, and parts of West Wratting and Six Mile Bottom are less than 2km.

The aim of Stop Wadlow Wind Farm is to oppose the construction of a wind farm at this location. There are many reasons why local residents should be very concerned which are detailed on our website.

In June 2007 South Cambs District Council voted 10-2 to reject the wind farm proposal. RES then appealed, and there is now to be a Public Inquiry to determine the final outcome.

Dear EPAW

Congratulations on this initiative. Cynghrair Hiraethog Alliance (CHA) would like to join and support your actions.

Our region in North Wales has been allocated by the Welsh Assembly Government as a "strategic search area" for wind turbine development. As such, the local planning authorities have been instructed that applications should have a presumption in favour of approval, even when there is overwhelming local objection.

We hope that your actions will help overcome the blind evangelism for wind power that is being practised by the UK and Welsh Governments.

With best wishes

United StatesNational Wind Watch supports European call for wind energy moratorium

January 20th, 2009

European Platform Against Windfarms (EPAW) also calls for study of wind power's record to determine its true benefits, costs, and adverse impacts

Rowe, Mass., Jan. 15, 2009 -- On the morning of October 4, 2008, before the second national protest against industrial wind energy development in Paris, several groups from France and other European countries agreed to form the European Platform Against Windfarms (EPAW).

On November 24, with more groups having already joined them, EPAW publicized a letter [1] that they will send to the Commissioners of the European Union and Members of the European Parliament.

The letter calls for an immediate moratorium on wind energy projects throughout the E.U. and independent study of wind energy to assess its carbon savings and its economic, social, and environmental impacts.

National Wind Watch supports this call and wishes them well.

We have a lot to learn from Europe, where there is a long experience with substantial presence of wind energy on the grid. The time is long overdue that regulators and planners should stop talking about what wind energy "can" do and start examining what it actually has done.

North America and the rest of the world also should heed EPAW's request for a reality check.

In December 2008, the British Wind Energy Association was forced by the Advertising Standards Authority to reduce by half its claims of how much carbon emissions might be reduced by wind energy. [2] This and other claims by the wind energy industry need to be examined by independent experts, so that energy policy is based on facts rather than sales material.

On the other side of the scale, the industry has long downplayed adverse impacts as "in the past" or aberrations. In recent years, however, the cumulating effects of industrial wind energy development, along with heavy-duty support roads and transmission infrastructure -- on wetlands, on birds and bats, and on human neighbors -- has become impossible to deny.

Organizations devoted to protecting raptors and bats have expressed deep concern about the siting of giant wind turbines where they can endanger these animals. [3] And a forthcoming peer-reviewed epidemiological study by Dr. Nina Pierpont of Malone, New York, describes the effect on people as "wind turbine syndrome", a common and consistent set of symptoms that include tinnitus, nausea, and depression. [4] When people suffering from this syndrome leave the area, the symptoms subside. Several families have had to abandon their homes to regain their health.

On January 9, 2009, the New York Supreme Court annulled a town law regulating large wind turbines because the town board did not take a "hard look" at relevant areas of environmental concern, and it disregarded study committee recommendations for setbacks and noise standards to protect the health and well-being of residents. [5]

Everyone involved in promoting and supporting the spread of industrial wind needs to take a "hard look" at the facts. As Eric Rosenbloom, president of National Wind Watch, said, "If we have learned anything from the last eight years, from the collapse of Enron who helped create the modern wind industry [6] to the demise of Lehman Brothers who invested heavily in wind to avoid paying taxes [7], we can not trust the players themselves to look out for our or the environment's interests. We need policies based on facts, not promotional materials or wishful thinking."

United StatesCheers!

Dear Jean Louis:

Congratulations for helping to forge EPAW as an organized means of combating the energy fraud that limited liability wind companies represent. As you well know, industrial wind projects provide virtually no meaningful product or service but are nonetheless wholly subsidized by rate and taxpayers. Wind profiteers promise to save the environment but in reality are wreaking havoc upon it. These environmental plunderers, with their hirelings and parasites, use a few truths, many half truths, and the politics of wishful thinking to frame a house of lies.

Three cheers for the Paris Demonstrations as a prelude for international sanity on this issue. As an environmentalist seeking much better public policy, I applaud EPAW and wish you every success.

NederlandJoin EPAW

Dear Sirs,

We like to join the European Platform Against Windfarms.

At first we objected the wind turbines because of the fact that we found them to destroy the character of the landscape (rural country side) we live in.

Right now the sound emission and particularly the low frequency sound is our main concern because of the health risk involved since the turbines might be situated at no more than 400 m from housing.

This is based on the Dutch environmental standards of a minimum distance to housing of 4 times the shaft centre height (approx. 100 m for a 2 MW installation).

Since in several European countries it is the experience that distances should be at least 1200 to 1500 m to minimise hindrance and health risks, we hope that the Platform can help to get a European standard enforcing these distances.

Dear EPAW organisers,

Thank you for this great initiative.

As a foundation against a planned windpark near Arnhem, the Netherlands, we are very happy with your intended actions towards the European Parliament. The Dutch government is currently said to prepare legislation to overrule municipalities that refuse to install wind turbines on their territory. Our politicians in The Hague are always trying to play best kid in the European class in the field of overhyped environmental 'protection', not seldom taking measurements that lead to environmental damage instead, such as is the case with wind energy. They need to be overruled themselves. So please accept our warmest support.

EnglandFamily In Deeping St Nicholas, England

Dear EPAW.

My Family, like the Porters in King City, Missouri, are also suffering from noise pollution from our nearby wind turbines. In our case 930 metres away. We do not have flicker, but we do have noise both inside and outside our home – that started within 3 days of the turbines becoming operational. We stopped even trying to sleep at home after 6 months and rented a house 5 miles away initially just to sleep in – as we believed that we could rest, study and work at our home.

This was not to be and in May 2007 we effectively abandoned our home on our farm to live 5 miles away. And my husband, a farmer too – now has to commute to work. My mother in law and father in law have stayed on the farm, in a bungalow about 500 yards away from what was our home. It is their home too, and has been for over 40 years. They now sleep badly, and find themselves suddenly awakened in the night. My mother in law describes the sensation as being like someone blowing in her ears, all the time, a presence, being restless. She has recently had to have a kidney out (not cancer) and found that she could rest and feel peaceful in hospital – and sleep all night – every night... what kind of indictment is that?

For ourselves once we moved away we physically felt much better, and stronger, and have used that strength to give presentations, talks and help others to understand across the UK on what can happen when these things – that don't even seem to do what they are supposed to very often... are erected too close to peoples homes.

Remember ours are nearly 3000 feet away and still we have had to leave our home.

We know of victims in Ireland, Italy, Australia, Canada, America and New Zealand, and we know of 23 other wind farms in the UK that are causing the same sort of experiences that we are suffering from.

Like the Porters we too are preparing a legal suit, but ours is not as far advanced as theirs is.

This so called Wind Farm has devastated our lives, and destroyed our hopes and dreams, our finances and significantly impacted on our health – with unknown long term effects just from the stress we are living under... all the time.

Without a legal case in the offing we would see no future for us..

We wish the Porter family every success.

United StatesLetter in response to EPAW

To whom it may concern, EPAW

I am writing in response to what I see at your website, epaw.org. I am a friend and neighbor of Nina Pierpont, professional researcher into the health effects of windfarms in Malone NY, USA, and her husband Calvin Martin, a retired professor from Rutgers University and commited outspoken opponent of windfarms, both tirelessly investigating all the ramifications of this bizarre, invasive industry of windfarm construction.

I am strongly, favorably impressed with your righteous, direct and brilliantly articulate message to the European Union (which will, hopefully, be heard by the rest of the world as well) challenging the legitimacy of this proliferating industry. Over 100 windtowers were erected, in a hurry, near Calvin and Nina, an area I drive through now and then. They are truly hideous. They have converted an historically beautiful area of farmland into an industrial power generation site. The towers are enormous. They are causing a number of families to suffer significant health problems and, before long, move away. They were constructed with permission of the land owners, with a strong profit incentive offered to these rural, uninformed farmers and residents in this economically depressed county. All the issues presented at your website are coming to the forefront, and it is too, too late. Let anyone with ears to hear read your message and respond with a great shout to their governments.

Sincerely, and wishing you every success,

We are a group of over one hundred people who are very much appreciate your initiative and your activities.

We are Faeto, in the Province of Foggia, a municipality is considered, with its 866 m. s.l.m., the highest village in Apulia.

Our country was unspoiled and beautiful landscape until a few years ago when the local authority, which has also reconfirmed the elections of 2005, has acted, with a flash and without involving the least the people had been expected despite the Administrative Program l 'call the referendum on the subject, to build a wind farm.

The people of our country began to see a street of huge trucks and concrete mixers and dusty terrain vehicles that more and more internal and external roads and, with their frantic activity as unknown, were changing forever the features of our territory.

Began to stagliarsi on the ridges of our beautiful mountains, peppered with oak and beech forests, water sources as well as crystal fauna of absolute honor that includes wolves, boars and a vast variety of birds, some invasive giant senz'anima, placed without logic and visual harmony, which broke irreparably and forever the quiet of those places untouched and that created an environmental impact so devastating that it can not be accepted for any reason.

The wind farms were located in places that fall within or are adjacent to wooded areas of prime importance in areas classified as SIC and PUTT, areas that were included in the Parco dei Monti Dauni Meridionali without neglecting the fact that the 90% of our territory is subject to the constraints of the catchment area of Puglia and the Liri - Garigliano.

United StatesFamily in King City, Missouri

My family, like so many others, is in the middle of a Wind Monster nightmare. 27 giant wind monsters have been erected in every direction from our home of 15 years. 6 or 7 are as close as 1200 feet from our front door.

The noise, inside our home and outside, the shadow flicker, inside our home and outside, the loss in our farms equity, the loss in our farms marketability, etc. (I'm sure you've heard all this before), has ruined our lives, both health wise, as well as financially.

We teamed up with one of the biggest law firms in Kansas City, and tried to reach a fair settlement with the Wind Capital Group, but the WCG doesn't seem to care about the devastation they are forcing onto the American public. Our team of attorneys will file a lawsuit against the WCG and John Deere, as John Deere backed the project, (the first one in Missouri) financially, either today or Monday.

All we ever asked for, from the time they drove 3' stakes in the ground, was to move the Wind Monsters farther away from our home, and leave us alone, to enjoy the quiet country way of life that we worked so hard over the last 15 years to create.

I just got an email from Eric Rosenbloom with a link to your site. I plan on reading through your site, but if you all have anything that might help our cause, please let us know.

Thank you very much.

We are fighting npower renewables (part of the RWE Group) who want to put 8 x 127m turbines in the middle of 5 villages 12 miles north west of the University City of Cambridge. Many homes and businesses would be about 600m from the nearest turbine. These turbines, if built, would be seen by many 10,000s people living and working inside 5 miles (8km).

The protest by local people has been very controlled and very effective in our campaign. We have very recently, and very unusually, learned our local planning authority has asked the developer to withdraw the planning application without it going before the planning committee. Currently we are waiting the response from npower to this very unusual situation.

We wish you every success in your endeavours in fighting to get renewable energy away from unsightly, unreliable and expensive wind power and onto more reliable, sustainable and properly financed power generation.

EnglandMessage of support

Dear EPAW

I am Linda Webster, Chairman of Save Our Stainmore (SOS) a local action group set up to fight the construction of 12 x 125 metre turbines within an AONB (designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in Cumbria in the North of England.

We wish to give our full support to your project and we are convinced that by working together, opposition groups will become a force and a voice which the EU will not be able to ignore.

We are all threatened by the headlong rush to invest in windpower and to destroy precious countryside by constructing wind factories. Groups such as EPAW can combat the propoganda sent out by the wind lobby and remind people that wind is not a "green" solution - coal / gas fired power stations are not "turned off" because we have wind power - they have to keep running (inefficiently and thus creating more pollution).

The lives of those living close to wind factories are destroyed. There should be an immediate ban on construction of turbines closer than 2KM to the nearest residences as recommended by a French study into the health effects (the only serious study undertaken thus far).

If any other group wishes to contact us we would be pleased to work together with you. We are able to speak both French and German and would welcome contacts from across the EU.

Good luck to EPAW and you can count on our support.

Best regards

EspañaSolicitud de adhesión a la Plataforma EPAW

Queridos amigos:

Dear Sirs.

S B W T (Stop Bickerton Wind Turbine) is a group of residents and visitors who are opposing a developer's plans to site a group of turbines in an unspoilt area of great beauty situated about 20 kilometers south of Chester. The Committee have asked me to convey to you their very strong support for the initiative that you are taking.

We have been in operation for a year and have managed to delay the approval of an anemometer mast for about six months. At the moment we are waiting for the developer to erect the 60 meter mast, permission for which was given by the Planning Inspectorate last August.

EspañaBonjour...: EPAW.ORG

Bonjour,

To Jean-Louis Butré

Along the Norwegian coast, there are plans for more then 4.000 windturbines. Today only a few is erected. Although there are given licence for 18 new plants with app. 500 turbines, they are not build yet. Probably of economic reasons. Anyway - when a plan for a turbineplant is announced, a protestorganisation is immediately created. Together 20 such local groups is formed today, under the unbrella: Stopp Rasering Av Kysten (Stop the raze of our coast)

I represend one of those: MOTVIND.org and work to stop a plan for 75 gigaturbines in one of the finest areas along our coast: Sleneset. (MOTVIND means headwind in Norwegian) An archipelago of untouched nature, rich fauna and the highest density of horned owl in Europe. The area is widely used by seakayakers like myself.

NederlandAgainst windfarms EPAW

Dear sir,

This is my message to you. I am against windfarms while our government do not want to invest in other energyforms like solarenergy because all the energyfirms in Holland (and Gouvernement) will not earn enough money if everybody have his own sun/solar power system on his roof of the house. They want to spend a lot of tax money from the inhabitants of Holland so they can build windfarms, and let the energyprices race until the sky. I wonder if there is anybody who has a clear mind and stop this stupidness.

Kind regards,

België - BelgiqueCongratulations to EPAW

Here in Belgium, we support the European movement which opposes the useless development of so-called « windfarms » everywhere on the continent, destroying landscapes, even to the very heart of Natura 2000 areas (it goes as far as that here in Wallonia) ruining neighbours and their health, without the slightest advantage in terms of reduction of CO2 emissions.

When will our politicians at all levels, stop taking stupid demagogic measures, just to show that they do something!

I had filled something out to join back in October, it must have gotten lost in Cyberspace.

My name is Anne Britton, Chairperson of We Oppose Windfarms. I am currently constructing a new site. I have one at we-oppose-windfarms.tripod.com. The other has had server problems weopposewindfarms.org. My email address is WOW2(at)wildblue.net.

I have been a "wind warrior" as we sometimes refer to ourselves as for about 5 years now. I have helped and networked with people and groups all over the world. I am very pleased to see SOCME on your list... I will have to take a visit. I miss corresponding with Mal Davies. He was an inspiration to me and I am sure to many others. We emailed frequently and he was always full of encouragement when I felt like giving up the battle. He always reinforced all of the positive steps I had made. Although we are on opposite sides of the globe, I felt that we had known each other.

I have been very active all over the state of New York, USA. I participated in the Albany Tea Party in February 2006... we had a press conference in the legislative office building then visited our representative all day in fifteen minute increments. We made the statement that we were paying a tax that was not voted on by our representative which in turn was going to the wind developers.
(www.legislativegazette.com). It is against the US Constitution to tax without proper representation.

In May 2007 I held an International Summit on the top of the Tug Hill Plateau, surrounded by 196 1.65 MW Vesta Turbines, 405' in the air. There are videos of the site on You Tube. I believe searching Tug Hill Wind and Flat Rock you will find some.

THIS WEEK!!! The office trailers belonging to the wind developer want to be in my town, Brandon, NY, USA have been hauled away... What a great holiday gift, even though we still reamin on the interconnection queue as a prposed project. Noble Environmental Power will be dissolving it's assets as a consequence of Leahman Brothers' bankruotcy filed in September. It was their holding company.

The wind fight has been an interesting journey...... hope to be able to get even more involved world wide and utilize my years of research.

Thank you all for what you have done and what you are going to do...

We are a group of citizens in the Western part of New York State in the USA. The name of our group is Citizens for a Healthy Rural Neighborhood (CHRN). Our area is a beautiful rural and farming part of the U.S., and it is being threatened by many Industrial Wind developments. We have been active politically, with some success, but our fight is far from over.

Dear EPAW

Firstly thank you very much indeed for this European initiative to fight windfarm developments! We can see no good, only harm coming from these.

I represent CURB (Conservation of Upland Radnorshire and Breconshire). Our lovely Welsh countryside is being threatened by 4 current applications and possibly a further 15 separate windfarms, most over 50MW installed capacity.

We have approximately 100 members, growing fast!

Our special interest is the carbon equation. Work done by CURB has shown that windfarm developments produce more carbon that they save. Our argument is evolving all the time as we gather more information but the current state of it is attached. Any other group is welcome to use this information.

Please contact me, Sarah Myhill, for any further information!

Your voice will be heard worldwide and will help those of us in other parts of the world who are fighting to keep our countryside as it should be; unspoiled by ineffectual industrial wind turbine development. We need to reclaim our homes and rights from wind developers and misinformed politicians.

Ideologie ersetzt keine Energie!

mit herzlichem Dank und vielen Grüßen

WalesWindfarms

Hello,

I would like to support the Moratorium against windfarms. I live in North Wales, U.K. and we are being greatly threatened by the construction of many more windfarms in this area.

There are a number of action groups in North Wales who have been campaigning against windfarms for the past 8 years.

With best wishes,

Judy Young

Sirs, I have just been alerted to the existence of EPAW and its website. I have campaigned vigorously against wind farm development in a range of hills in central Scotland called the Ochils. Developments have already been approved defiling the scenic beauty of this lovely range of hills and the Scottish landscape in general is under threat from further schemes.

If EPAW can do anything to make politicians at local and national level around the world realise how destructive wind farms are, then more power to its elbow. We are rushing headlong down a path which will irreparably harm some of our most treasured landscapes and it must be stopped.

United StatesGuest membership

Yes, I do understand the difference between North America and Europe.

We are one of the top ten referenced web sites and organizations in the USA. Please grant our guest membership if you can. Thank you, and best wishes!

As well, I have taken an executive position in a forming organization called AWED - Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions, which will rank energy generation sources on all cost/benefit measures, but not until we have reviewed and compiled all of the measurements. Stay tuned!

AustraliaWe support you

Dear Colleagues

We support your request for a Moritorium against wind farm development and more specifically we agree completely with the crafting of the draft open letter to the European Institutions.

We are resident in Australia. Our numbers are not as great as the combined European Community. Never the less, our experiences are the same.

Humans are ultimately dependant on a healthy environment for their well being and over time civilisation has developed an array of mechanisms to acheve this. Now, many years on, we have arrived at a situation where governments, companies and consultants contrive to overcome these protective measures by hiding Consequences.

We need to expose these practices and reveal the true consequences and short comings. If the greater public were properly informed, they too would see the weight of the argument.

We support your efforts all the way.

Good afternoon

The Carrajung and Blackwarry Residents Against Windfarms (Australia) congratulates EPAW for this initiative. The international support shows that there is a need to mount an international forum against the construction of windfarms. The present international political climate seems to be driven by asinine groups which have no concept of all of the problems that they are unleashing on the populations, wildlife and environment.

NO Wind Farms For Carrajung -BlackwarryGood luck with your future success and I hope that this initiative will expand to an international basis.

England

Hello,

I received the information about EPAW from Jane Davis in Lincolnshire UK.

I give you my unreserved support in your aims and objectives. It is admirable that such a group has been formed to fight this disease which is getting worse by the day and due to develop into a plague unless one voice, on the international stage, rather than individuals or small groups trying to fight the speculators at a local level is galvanized into action, and so, hopefully, put a stop to the insane obsession of erecting windfarms on every piece of land they can.

My house is overlooked by a windfarm (Wharrels hill, north Cumbria, UK) which is some 800m away. Our lives have been put into complete turmoil with noise and flicker for over a year. The developers seem not to want to interest themselves with our problems and we appear to be fighting a losing battle against these monstrosities which, as well as ruining our well-being and quality of life, are uneconomic, destroy the environment, affect tourism, kill wildlife and add thousands of tones of CO2 to the atmosphere through the process used to create concrete for the bases. Yet all governments in the EU are adamant that the development of these useless structures must go ahead.

I therefore applaud the forming of such a group which I sincerely hope will form into a very powerful body which will raise issues at the highest level and bring about a turnaround in the stupid thinking of both the European Parliament and also governments of individual states.

Keep up the good work and may I request that my Email address be put on file so that I may receive updates from you when appropriate.

Yours sincerely,

Ron Williams

Messieurs,

Many thanks for inviting us to join EPAW, which we have no hesitation in doing as we feel that the time is so right for unity.

I have alerted our colleagues in other parts of Europe and in the USA, and they in turn will inform others, in order that everyone is aware of EPAW's good work.

We fully support the draft letter to the European Institutions.

I have attached the EVAG logo and details below.

Wishing EPAW every success.

United KingdomMessage

Dear Friends

Country Guardian congratulates the European Platform Against Windfarms on their formation which enables campaigners in Europe and worldwide to further unite in opposition to the destruction of our common rural and historical heritage by industrial wind turbines.

Good planning is about balance. The irreparable ecological damage, loss of amenity and distressing divisions within communities caused by industrial wind turbines far outweigh any benefit of their insignificant and unreliable contribution to our energy needs.
Their tiny, intermittent and unpredictable output of electricity and negligible CO2 savings cannot possibly justify the huge sacrifice of that most finite resource - our unspoilt and unrenewable countryside.

It is our duty to protect our rural heritage for present and future generations from such gross and unnecessary industrialization.

You have our total support and we shall be delighted to join the EU Platform.

Yours sincerely

Angela Kelly
